Introduction

Pakistan’s corporate sector now appears to have achieved the required critical mass to play its due role in the development of the Country.

As is well known, USA was developed by corporate America, Japan by Japan Inc., and Europe also by its corporate sector. The history of joint stock companies is over 250 years old and these entities have played a vital role in the development of the Western economies.

The corporate sector in India is also beginning to play its due role. However, in Pakistan this has been lagging behind. The Pakistani corporate sector is presently busy in making money and some companies and groups have now enough. What is needed is to assist the corporate sector in understanding the dynamics of the macro-economics and social sectors of the Country. Further, based on this, interventions, projects and programs need to be developed for implementation. A think tank and a research center with a focus on the corporate sector is needed in the Country as they exist in USA, Europe, Japan and even India.

Pakistan Corporate Development Centre will be primarily focused at Pakistan’s growing corporate sector with a view to assisting in its development on sustainable basis and for assisting the corporate sector in playing its due role in the development of Pakistan.

As such the target beneficiaries of PCDC’s outputs will be Pakistan’s corporate sector, the citizens and civil society, and the government.

PCDC’s products and services will be market driven so that it is able to not only generate required revenues for its operations and growth but also to ensure its relevance to the above mentioned target audience.

In addition to the above primary target groups, PCDC may undertake research projects and special studies for multi-lateral and bilateral funding agencies. These may include UN agencies, World Bank, ADB, IDB, USAID, CIDA, NORAD, SDC, GTZ, DGIS, AUSAID, DFID, etc.. However, in studies and projects for the above, it will be ensured that the interest of Pakistan, its corporate sector and the citizens are well protected.

To meet this challenge, the founding members of PCDC mobilized to form a Professional Organization that can provide the corporate and business sector of Pakistan a platform to be used for the development of the sector in particular, and in furthering the socio-economic gains of Pakistan in general.
